“The music still plays in my head. When I’m in that creative mode, and I’m listening to new instrumentals, the song speaks to me and I can imagine a melody, and the words form like puzzle pieces! It’s like y’all can’t HEAR that? Here let me show you what I hear, and another song is born!” It’s an answer that reveals far more than a songwriting process.
To Ghost, music is almost conversational. Instrumentals aren’t empty tracks waiting for lyrics, they’re invitations. They already contain emotion, movement, and direction. Her role is simply translating what she hears into something the rest of us can experience. That childlike excitement hasn’t disappeared over the years. The Reality Behind the Dream
Every musician begins with a certain amount of optimism. Many imagine that talent alone opens doors. Ghost admits she once believed that too. “I had to unlearn, nothing is handed to you. I thought it was.” It’s a realization nearly every independent artist eventually faces.
Before entering the music industry, success can appear effortless from the outside. Fans see performances, releases, and milestones but rarely the countless hours of networking, marketing, rejection, and persistence happening behind the scenes. Ghost quickly realized that creating music was only part of the journey.
“You start thinking anyone would be blessed to have me. Then you learn how things go, and how most people are selfish, and the world doesn’t revolve around you.”
Instead of discouraging her, that realization forced her to ask much deeper questions. Do I really want this? Why do I want people’s attention? How do I keep it? Those questions shifted her focus from seeking validation to building something genuine. Authenticity became more valuable than approval.
The Woman Behind Ghost
Artists often create stage names to separate themselves from everyday life. Ghost’s identity works differently. Rather than creating distance, Ghost brings everything together.
“GHOST is the center point for all my trauma. She gathers data from different points in my life and like puzzle pieces, fits them together to tell her own story.”
It’s a powerful way to describe an artistic identity. Ghost isn’t hiding behind a persona. She’s organizing experiences. Heartbreak, growth, fear, confidence, loss, hope. Every emotion becomes another piece of a much larger picture.
She continues:
“GHOST is the gatekeeper of all my thoughts and feelings and is responsible for how I express them.”
That perspective changes the way you hear her music. The songs aren’t fictional stories. They’re emotional translations.
Creativity Isn’t Always Comfortable
Many artists find comfort in creating alone. Ghost understands that feeling well. She’s capable of producing, writing, recording, and mixing by herself. But comfort rarely leads to growth. For her, real creative challenges begin the moment another artist enters the room.
“Working with other producers and artists.”
Simple, honest. Then she explains why.
“It’s easy to make my own beats, write, record, mix it, all by myself. But working with another person? I have to be fluid.”
Collaboration requires surrendering control. It means listening, adapting. Finding balance between two creative visions.
“I have to listen to other ideas and processes. I also have to match their style, or at least compliment it.”
Rather than resisting those moments, Ghost embraces them.
“They force me to be even more creative and unique.”
That mindset says a lot about her character. Instead of viewing collaboration as compromise, she views it as evolution. Every new producer. Every featured artist. Every session becomes another opportunity to discover parts of herself she might never have found alone.
Betting on Herself
Perhaps the most emotional moment in our conversation came when Ghost imagined writing a letter to the younger version of herself. The version who first decided music wasn’t just a hobby. It was the future.
“I would thank her for investing in me.”
It’s a sentence that carries incredible weight. Many people spend years waiting for someone else to believe in them. Ghost eventually realized she had to become her own biggest supporter.
“I took a chance on myself after seeing others take me for granted.”
That decision changed everything. Instead of depending on outside validation, she created her own momentum. She became her own motivation.
“I forced myself to see the hard truth; thanks to her, the motivation I feed myself daily, is remembering what it’s like to not have
any of this.”
It’s an outlook rooted in gratitude instead of entitlement.
Success Doesn’t Arrive Quietly
If Ghost could leave one warning for her younger self, it wouldn’t be about failure. It would be about endurance.
“It’s gonna hurt!”
Then comes the reality check every creative person eventually understands.
“You gotta grind 7 days straight! It’s gonna get uncomfortable. It’s gonna get quiet. You’re gonna get distracted.”
Creative careers aren’t built during exciting moments. They’re built during the silent ones. The days when inspiration disappears. When no one’s watching. When progress feels invisible. But even through those difficult seasons, Ghost never loses her sense of humor.
“You’re gonna get bit. You might like it.”
Then comes the reward.
“For sure you’re gonna see dope stuff! You’re gonna travel. You’re gonna make people laugh, like hysterically!”
Her final message may be the most important lesson of all.
“It’s all for the plot! Stay optimistic! Life is easier that way.”
More Than Music
